CPR Training
In partnership with the Irish Heart Foundation, students in Columba College participate in CPR training each year. This important life-saving skill helps students develop the knowledge and confidence needed to respond in emergency situations.
The school is committed to ensuring that all students have the opportunity to learn and practise CPR throughout their time in Columba College.
Film Club
Columba College’s Film Club provides students with the opportunity to relax, socialise, and enjoy films together during lunchtime activities.
Recent films shown include Avengers Assemble, Back to the Future, and The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. This year, the club is also organising a cinema outing for members.
Lip Sync
Each year before the Christmas holidays, Columba College hosts a whole-school Lip Sync event filled with singing, dancing, and entertainment.
The event is always a highlight of the school calendar and provides students with a fun and memorable way to celebrate the end of term together.
Photography
Many students in Columba College have a keen interest in Photography and regularly participate in competitions throughout the school year.
In previous years, students achieved success in the Biodiversity Ireland Photography Competition, showcasing their creativity and talent through nature photography.
Polytunnel Initiative
The school polytunnel was established to promote environmental awareness and sustainability within Columba College.
This student-led initiative allows students to grow and harvest seasonal fruit and vegetables while developing an interest in horticulture, gardening, and food production. The project also links closely to both Junior and Senior Cycle curriculum areas.
Scifest
Scifest is a national STEM initiative in which students from Columba College participate annually. The regional science fair exhibition takes place in Athlone Institute of Technology and provides students with the opportunity to explore and showcase their interest in Science and Technology.
Students from both Junior and Senior Cycle have achieved great success in recent years, winning a number of awards at the competition.
School Tours & Trips
Each year, a variety of school tours and educational trips are organised to enhance students’ learning experiences and provide opportunities to explore new places and cultures.
Previous foreign tours have included Belgium, Barcelona, and London. Other school trips include Ecology Trips, Ploughing Championships, Higher Options, Theatre Trips, History Trips, Geography Trips, Gaisce Adventure Weekends, Gaeltacht Trips, and Class Bonding Trips.
