Introduction to Art
Art is a language of visual images that everyone can learn to read. In art classes, we make visual images, and we study, discuss and debate art work. Increasingly, these images affect our needs, our daily behaviour, our hopes, our opinions, and our ultimate ideals.
Visual literacy includes the ability to understand, respond to, and talk about visual images. As art teachers we work continuously on the development of practical and critical thinking skills. .
Why do we teach art?
Beyond the qualities of creativity, self-expression, and communication, art is a type of work. Through art, our students learn the meaning of autonomy over their own work-work done to the best of one’s ability, for its own sake, for the satisfaction of a job well done.
Visual Art
Visual Art allows students to research and explore through a range of media. Students complete a CBA at the end second year and again at the start of third year. From December to May of third year students complete a project that is assessed by the State Exam Commission.
At senior cycle, students complete a project in 6th year as well as sitting a written exam at the end of the year.
